This one goes out to all the people who draw on sidewalks, armed only with chunks of chalk and unbridled imagination; to the multi-colored messages on concrete canvases meant for anyone moving more quickly than the rain.
Here’s to unspoken invites for passersby to play, to hopscotch and tic-tac-toe. Here’s to starting lines and finish lines, scorecards and winner’s circles, the remnants of victories and defeat.
Here’s to scrawled self-portraits and straightforward sketches of best friends and butterflies, family trees and flowerbeds, suns in sunglasses and solar systems that stretch down the street.
This one goes out to all the people who gently kneel to the ground to scribble prayers of hope and peace and love; the ones who remind us kindness can change the world, both in their words and in their actions.
Here’s to the cheekier chalk artists with their R-rated strokes of mischievery, dabbling in low stakes graffiti where spelling and grammar and even manners don’t matter.
Here’s to the all the people who color outside the lines, then outside the paper, artfully dodge rules and conventions, find joy in imperfect impermanence and dare to make their mark.
I always look forward to your Sunday musings! Thank you for the lift!
