This was so well written. I've thought to myself so many times, how can I reach the men around me and help them understand this issue better? You do it with grace, humor, and tact, without minimizing the true harms and concerns. Thank you for continuing to be a voice that can reach everyone.
That comment speaks for itself. And for the source. If we are lucky, we all get old. He probably has no one who cares. Genuine people do. Let the haters hate and move on.
There is a group of "men" I know. One of them insults me and calls me rude names, the rest of them, say "oh well that is just him". They never defend me against the abuse. So when I see them I do not talk to them.
I agree that I too have been, "don't want to make it weird", or "be that person" in such a situation. It's not quite in my fiber to openly criticize people in avoidance of conflict.
This series had me paying attention to my song playlist this past week, and I realized I have a diverse mix of both male and female vocalist/groups - a good song is a good song - give credit where credit is due without prejudices - in all aspects of life. I had an acquaintance that I noticed had zero females in his playlist, and infact, forwarded past any such song - enough times for me to take note. I recall that this same person was very quick to "judge a book by its cover" when it came to people.
When I read the statement about, "bring at least one or two to the surface", my mind thought of these clams that exist on the Pacific coast called geoducks (pronounced gooey ducks). They're difficult to catch because of the depths they reside under the muddy sand. I had to look them up to get the correct spelling, and when I saw the pictures, I thought, yeah, good analogy!😅
I enjoyed this series, and will reflect on it in aspects of my week ahead!

Great comment! I too came to a conclusion that he was self projecting with his comment - probably his goto when called out/embarrassed, ect..
